Saltash Heritage   

Saltash Heritage is an MLA Accredited Museum    Saltash badge    The Cornwall County crest

SALTASH HERITAGE - was formed in 1986 by the late Cornelius 'Corny' Hearl and a group of like minded local people who wanted to see the formation of a permanent museum for Saltash.

AIMS - Saltash Heritage aims to collect, promote and research local history in Saltash and surrounding parishes and to maintain a museum in Saltash.

MUSEUM - After many years' hard work and fund raising by the committee and members of Saltash Heritage, in 2000 one of the original aims of Saltash Heritage was met - the founding of a permanent museum in Saltash. Click here for details of the museum.

EXHIBITIONS - In the past, Saltash Heritage has held annual exhibitions on different themes in Saltash Guildhall. Now that the Museum has been established, it holds regular temporary exhibitions in the Museum, along with a small permanent display. Click here for details of past exhibitions.
The 2006 season saw over 2500 visitors to the "On The Right Track" exhibition.
Interactive computer CD-ROMs of the 2006 "On The Right Track" exhibition are NOW ON SALE, along with CD-ROMs of the exhibitions from previous years. They are available from the museum.
Nearly 2100 visitors came to see the 2007 exhibition "Be Prepared"

NEWS - After a lot of work by the committee, Saltash Heritage has recently been awarded Accreditation by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. For more details on the scheme, visit www.mla.gov.uk/website/programmes/accreditation

EVENTS

The 2008 Big Draw event was held on Saturday 25th October - This year's Spectacular Big Draw was to design a pair of spectacles.

Preparations are underway for the 2009 exhibition, which will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the opening of Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge, along with a look at what life was like around that time. If you have any items associated with the bridge, or Victorian items from the period, which you would be prepared to loan for the duration of the exhibition, please contact a Committee Member, or drop in to the Museum.

THIS YEAR'S EXHIBITION - The 2008 Exhibition, entitled "What's Up, Doc?", is on the subject of 'Health' in the widest sense, and coincides with the 60th anniversary of the formation of the National Health Service in 1948. It is NOW OPEN. Click here for details of Museum opening times.

2008 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Our 22nd Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 29th May 2008 in the Saltash Guildhall.
This year's speaker was Mrs. Barbie Thompson, who give a very interesting and professionally presented talk on Captain Edward Hawkins, who lived at Duncan House, which is situated next to the Guildhall. After rising through the ranks in the Navy and commanding several ships, he took command of the hulks moored in the Hamoaze which housed prisoners of war from various nations.

REFLECTIONS CONCERT - We will be holding another of our popular concerts featuring the singing group "REFLECTIONS" on Thursday 13th November 2008 in the Saltash Guildhall at 7pm for 7.30pm start. Further details from the Secretary, Lizzy Sharpe-Asprey.

2006 Art Competition - The idea was to design in A4 format, using any media, a picture depicting your ideas on Brunel, contemporary or traditional, landscape or portait.
All entries were put on display for one week in the Museum, where the general public decided the winning entry - The winning designs have been produced as postcards, which are on sale in the Museum (35p each or 3 for £1-00).

Pictures from Coach Trip to Swindon - A very successful coach trip to the STEAM Railway Museum at Swindon was organised by Bill Myers. Click here for pictures of some of the travellers.
