History of Saltash   

SALTASH - A Heritage Trail has been set up around the town by the Saltash Partnership/Saltash Town Council. It is well signposted (look out for the black and gold signs) and takes in several places of interest. Take the trail from here.

Link to Elliott's Store page on the Heritage Trail ELLIOTT'S STORE - Elliott's Store is cared for by the Tamar Protection Society, and opposite the museum is a store room used by the Elliotts. Not only was stock for the shop held here, but also a van!
Link to The Guildhall page on the Heritage Trail THE GUILDHALL - Situated in Lower Fore Street is the Saltash Guildhall. Recently refurbished and modernised.

Link to Station page on the Heritage Trail STATION - Saltash Railway Station is currently derelict, but plans are underway to turn it into a local history centre.
Link to Mary Newman's Cottage page on the Heritage Trail MARY NEWMAN'S COTTAGE - The wife of Sir Francis Drake reputedly lived in Saltash, and the cottage she is believed to have lived in still exists and is open to the public. It is also cared for by the Tamar Protection Society.
Link to Waterside page on the Heritage Trail WATERSIDE/MURAL - The historical 'heart' of Saltash, this is where the main trade and commerce originated. Painted on the side of the Union Inn is a mural depicting local characters and events.
Link to Mosaic page on the Heritage Trail SALTASH TOWNBRIGHT MOSAIC - The Saltash Townbright Mosaic was created in 1988-89 by children of the Saltash primary schools - Bishop Cornish, Brunel, Burraton & St Stephens and members of the Ashtorre Rock Community Centre, working with artist Emma Spring. It was funded by Caradon District Council and Cornwall Regeneration, and supported by the Highways Agency and Amey Highways.
