Saltash Museum

SALTASH MUSEUM - Saltash Heritage finally achieved one of its original aims, when, in 2000, it opened the Saltash Museum and Local History Centre at 17 Lower Fore Street, Saltash. There is a small permanent display about the history and well-known 'characters' of Saltash, and a temporary display is mounted during the summer months (April to November). The 2001 exhibition was 'World War 2 - The Home Front' (with over 2000 people visiting in the 8 month period it was open), & the 2002 exhibition was about 'Our Rural Past' (see below). In 2003 the exhibition was 'The Festive Fifties & A Century Of Royal Events' (see below). The 2004 exhibition covered 'Times And Tide-Lines' - Employment, recreation, training ships & wildlife on our estuaries. The 2005 Exhibition - 'Are You Being Served?' - focused on shops and businesses in the Saltash area. The 2006 exhibition, "On The Right Track", was a celebration of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's achievements in South East Cornwall, timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of his birth in 1806. In 2007 exhibition, we celebrated 100 years of Scouting and Guiding in "Be Prepared". 2008's display, "What's Up, Doc?", examined the subject of 'Health' in the widest sense. 2009 heralded "Bridging The Years". In 2010 we took a look at "Pastimes In Past Times".

PLANS - Saltash Heritage hopes to continue with its aims of collecting and preserving local historic photographs, ephemera etc., in order that they may be kept for future generations to learn about the area.
