We would love to design and present a historical picture of the Town, to be sited on the stairs of the Museum. Could you assist? Consider cross stitch, or quilting, collage, patchwork or appliqué. Perhaps a combination. This would be an ideal project for those Attendants who would like something to do in the Museum.
If you have any suitable talents or ideas, to assist in this project please speak to the Secretary.
This was a hugely successful event. 18 children enjoyed an afternoon putting together the first section of our mosaic, which has already been fixed on the wall in the passageway. The children also dressed up in Victorian clothes, listened to stories and tales about people living on the riverbank and tucked into a delicious tea. It is hoped that we can put on further events for the youngsters. This event was sponsored by the Heritage Lottery and Caradon District Council.
The nine museums in Caradon who make up the South East Cornwall Museums Forum have obtained funding for a Costume Box. This will consist of one Adults' and two Children's costumes for the Tudor period and the Victorian Period. Also in the box will be games and a few period artefacts. Two members of our Committee have been to training sessions to enable them to best present the costumes and games to School children. The box will be shared between the nine museums to use as and when required.
Members of the Museum Committee have also enjoyed training sessions on Oral History, Memories and Supporting Volunteers. These sessions have been sponsored from various sources and all held in the Caradon Museums. Our thanks to Kate Johnson, our Curatorial Adviser for arranging these.
Anyone who is interested in future training sessions should speak to the Secretary.
The Oral History project is in full swing, supported by Cornish Braids and the South East Cornwall Museums Forum. The Oral History Project hopes to make a mark on the history of Saltash. The different aspects of life in the past, domestic life, working life, transport, religion, shopping, childhood etc. Training sessions are under way at the moment, with an introduction to the project, understanding memory, recording, ethics and copyright, as well as how to interview.
If you would like to know more about this project, would like to be involved in the interviewing or have a story to tell, please speak to the secretary.
